Why its always Indians??

Posted by: admin    in chennai, sports

Finally Gautam Gambhir has got a fine reward for his brilliant half century. It feels awkward that he has been penalized for the shoulder incident with Shane Waston. I still dont understand why the hell the sub continent players are treated in such a idiotic manner.

The players from the other nations have also had similar incidents but they are let off. Its only the subcontinent guys, who are treated in such a low manner and if the other players do it, its labeled as a part and parcel of the game. But if the same thing is done by a sub continent player he is penalized.

What word do we call this type of discrimination? If this is going to prolong then I feel its not really good for the sport.

Hottest Destination for Graduate Studies

Posted by: admin    in graduate admissions

One of the most important phases in every student’s life is his higher studies. By default, most students in India prefer US as their first choice. I feel the mentality of going to US actually dominates the students more than the type of studies they have planned to do. In the sense, people want to follow a stereotype pattern just because their friends or relatives are there in the US and they have convinced them to come there.

I personally feel Europe, though not very popular among the preferred destinations, is better than US. Though the course in US is well marketed, I believe many courses in Europe are higher in quality. In many areas the research facilities and labs in Europe are better. Despite these, it is not considered as a hot destination because people are ignorant and do not have as much information as they have on US courses.

Once when I was browsing on an Aeronautical based course, I was astounded to see that there was one program called European Masters in Aeronautical Engineering. Three universities, one each from Germany, Portugal and France together conducted this program. The student had to go to these respective universities for one semester each. The most heartening fact was that the University in France was situated in Toulouse, which is the Headquarters of Airbus. You should be able to imagine the exposure the student derives in these kind of courses. Apart from the exposure, the fees in Europe is also very nominal.

Hence I wish to tell the readers that the stereotype thinking that US is the best choice for MS should be removed. Students should explore all the opportunities all over the world before zeroing on a particular university.

Heavy Rains in Chennai

   Posted by: admin    in Uncategorized

After the floods in Bihar and heavy down pour in Mumbai, its now time for Chennai to feel the power of rain god. Sudden spells of rain before November have now put the city on stand still. Shoppers in the prime areas of the city and other places are facing increasing difficulties to purchase their goods.

Whatever measures the government takes prove ineffective against such rainfall as the whole city gets submerged in a matter of minutes. People throng the streets just to hope that the water doesn’t enter the house. The two people who make money in this period are doctors as the number of patients increase and mechanics who are busy repairing bikes and cars. Over the last few years the down pour in Chennai has been very high. So has been in other places in India.

Such instances just show the abnormal behavior of the environment. It is quite true that the activities of man have had a real ill effect on nature.

Shopping spree

   Posted by: admin    in Uncategorized

With Festival season knocking our doors the whole city is in a festive mood. People don’t mind getting out in rain or heavy traffic for shopping. I am really happy to be very close to the shopping arena, the self proclaimed shopping hub. Right from gold to clothes, you will get it here.

I now see people traveling from outskirts of Madrid to come to this place, just to purchase their needs. Though the place is crowded, I feel its really worth to just walk down the streets and be a silent spectator amidst the crowd.

Many times I just go and roam in the streets. I am firm that I am not going to purchase anything. The very feel of walking gives me great pleasure. It gives me a chance to see the new arrivals and hear people bargaining with the shop keepers. This year too, the routine did not change and I think my festival shopping is almost over, just walking down the lane.

Is it a waste of money?

Posted by: admin    in Science and technology

While I was happy about India’s space mission to the moon, I was disappointed to read many articles which hinted this as a waste of money. The articles quoted the financial situation of the country where poverty was evident, the money spent on the mission is a criminal waste. Browsing through the BBC website, many critics claim that UK has given millions to India for fighting AIDS and on the other hand India is spending its resources on missions like these.

I personally feel these arguments are baseless. We are actually looking into two different dimensions that cannot be compared. If UK has given money, it is not only for the well being of all the Indians but also to the whole world. Similarly, if India sends a mission to the moon, this is also going to benefit the whole world. Actually this mission is not only the hard work of ISRO and its scientists but also the result of the contribution poured in from other countries.

So such critical statements should be avoided. Such statements just mean that a developing country should always develop and cannot come in par with a developed country.

Job Satisfaction

Posted by: admin    in Work life

Many years before, I came across a saying:

“Whatever you are, a cobbler or a prince, You should do your job with complete dedication and satisfaction.”

This saying created a deep impact in my heart. It indirectly means you need to select a job which you like and you should enjoy it thoroughly. But in the present scenario, the job dictates terms. People are least satisfied and hence they are not dedicated to what they do.

This further results in lack of quality and incompleteness on time. Hence at the end of the day, no one feels satisfied. Over a period of time the man feels that he is improving on his bank balance but compromising on happiness. What are you fighting for? Is it satisfaction or just money? Only we are responsible for the situation and its only we who can answer it.

Cool Captain

   Posted by: admin    in sports

I think M.S.Dhoni is a clone of King Midas. Whatever he has tried in cricket has been successful. India was rated underdogs in the twenty 20 world cup and eventually went on to win it. Many critics spoke loads about the team, naturally in the negative sense but we won the ODI series Down Under. Now in the test match at Mohali, we won with one of the highest margins and the Aussies had their worst defeat ever.

Such things do not happen due to luck but has got something more than that. Many such questions cannot be answered, because his way of approach is far higher than the thinking capability of a common man. Doing complex things in a simple fashion, his captaincy is seen as an oxymoron. He is one of the captains in the recent times who has been imbibed with loads of common sense. When the Aussies participated  in the 2003 and the 2007 world cups, the team was strong both on paper and in the field. But when we went to the T 20 series, we were a bunch of players who just entered the international arena. Similarly Dhoni was instrumental in bringing a change in the team’s selection and the approach to the game. Really his captaincy is so abstruse.

But am happy as long as the team wins and really would like to see the Men in Blue shinning.
