Warming in Antartica

   Posted by: admin Tags: ,

Global warming is becoming a huge threat to this generation, with scientists sending more and more warnings everyday. Though a few studies have shown that the earth follows a typical warm and cold climate change, Global warming is happening and the ice sheets in Antarctica are fast melting. In a recently concluded study, an American scientist reported that the earth is used to climate changes and indicated ice age as an example. The earth did get hotter and hotter, thereby melting the ice and life has survived.

In a on going study by Eric J. Steig, a professor of space at the Washington University, global warming is recorded at very abnormal levels in one side of Antarctica (the western side) and that the phenomenon has been happening for more than 50 years. The study also indicates that the cause of these phenomenon as the effect of greenhouse gases and action is impending on the same.

Windows 7 for free?

Posted by: admin Tags: , ,

Microsoft sold approximately 20 million copies of vista. That is not a lot, considering the time span the project was in development and the release of the earlier product, windows XP. Steve Ballmer seemed like an optimistic man, in the recently concluded Macworld expo. According to BBC and CNN, both featuring headlines in the technology column, Microsoft is said to give away the next version of windows 7 as a free upgrade to select people.

For more pictures, visit information week.

What does this mean?
1. Microsoft accepts that the major release of Vista was a huge flop, despite claiming the opposite in the media conferences.

2. Microsoft windows is the most used operating system in the world. With only 20 million copies of Vista sold, Vista is assumed to be running on over 300 million systems. Microsoft failed to take in to consideration of the piracy and the legal ownership.

3. While Vista demanded a compulsory upgrade of your computer, windows 7 is more of a performance builder, rather than the fancy application stuff. Another move, copied right from apple, just that the applications were not built properly in windows. Windows 7 will probably boot in your system with the existing configuration.

Kernel panic – my MAC froze

   Posted by: admin Tags: ,

I am a mac fan biy and I hate to say this. My mac froze!!! I saw the gray screen of death – you must now restart your computer. Unfortunately, I cannot take a screen shot of that. What lead to kernel panic?

I was in New Jersey, runing high on caffine. I was not using airport and hence it was not a virus. Though I use a mac, i get this weird feeling of a virus attack on my mac. I do not use the admin account, but I am sure, the virus, if existed should be capable of breaking into the syste,. esle i would call it a bugaboo :-)

Wikipedia has a good article on kernel panic. I enver seen a linux machine crash, though i crashed linux deliberately a few times in a burn lab experiment. When it came to the MAC, i thought I was impossible to see the mac freeze – It did!!

I am not going for a nti virus though. I am a mac and I am secure. Am I?

Is it a waste of money?

   Posted by: admin Tags:

While I was happy about India’s space mission to the moon, I was disappointed to read many articles which hinted this as a waste of money. The articles quoted the financial situation of the country where poverty was evident, the money spent on the mission is a criminal waste. Browsing through the BBC website, many critics claim that UK has given millions to India for fighting AIDS and on the other hand India is spending its resources on missions like these.

I personally feel these arguments are baseless. We are actually looking into two different dimensions that cannot be compared. If UK has given money, it is not only for the well being of all the Indians but also to the whole world. Similarly, if India sends a mission to the moon, this is also going to benefit the whole world. Actually this mission is not only the hard work of ISRO and its scientists but also the result of the contribution poured in from other countries.

So such critical statements should be avoided. Such statements just mean that a developing country should always develop and cannot come in par with a developed country.
